How to make a Baby Rag Quilt...

Thursday, July 16, 2009

I know it has been a couple weeks since I told you all I was gonna put this tutorial on here, and so FINALLY here it is :) I had about 4 of you email and ask me how to do it, so I thought I would just share with everyone. These quilts are lots of fun to do...just take a little time :) I know this is a lengthly post and might look a little intimidating to make, but It really is pretty easy... and like I said FUN! I just like to go into detail and show lots of examples, I am not the best at explaining thing so I hope the instructions make sense- feel free to email me if you have questions.

You could use more or less depending on how large you want your quilt.

I like to use a really thin- Low ply batting on these quilts.

Maybe I will make one of these for my next baby (not an announcement). I don't sew so this would be quite the project for me. But, it does look pretty easy. Although you just make everything look easy!

Also, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to learn from your expertise on PS. Oh, and get this... I found out that I have PS CS3! So now I have Elements 5 and CS3. I am assuming I should learn CS3 right? One of the other things I am in need of is just getting all of my files organized. I suck at that. Anyway, I could come up to Logan sometime but do you think I could bring my computer? I will call you or Facebook you soon.

Your talents are never ending. I am thinking that I am going to learn how to sew this fall. Good goal eh?
A local fabric store has a minky quilt in animal print-all the squares are cut and it is only $24 bucks! It is pretty good size too. I am going to make one and put minky on the back. I always wanted my own soft blankie. Who says that minky is only for babies!!

So Cute!! Maybe one day I will do something like that. I like how you put step by step instructions on it, that will be helpful in the future :) I am not very crafty, I would just end up buying something like that haha.

Thanks for posting this Kelley. I have been in the process of making a rag quilt for like five years now. I cut out all my squares and kind of gave up but it has been brought out again and I think I will finish it in a couple of days. I really want to make another one though. Did you use flannel or cotton fabric? And how big is this one you made? I'm kind of thinking of making one for Emma's crib/new toddler bed.
